What is Going on with Washington Sports?

Bad Year for Washington Sports?

So what the heck is going on with our teams this year?

It is sad to admit that Washington has not had the best season so far for sports this year.

The Mariners finished last (again) in the American League (overall - not just in the West) finished 61 and 101.

So far the Seahawks are 2 and 9 and currently are on a 4 game losing streak.

Even our college teams aren't faring very well. Both the Huskies and the Cougars are in the bottom 2 slots of the Pac 10.

The Huskies (in last place) have not won a game all season long and the Cougars have only won 2 (1 of which was against the Huskies).

For college basketball, however, the college teams are not doing too bad. The season has just started but both teams have a winning season so far with the Cougars at 3-0 and the Huskies 2-1.

Not bad.

Another bright side is that our WNBA team, the Storm, are in 2nd place in the Western Conference, only 2 games behind San Antonio. In fact, they have the 2nd highest winning percentage in the entire league.

The question now is are things going to get any better in the sports arena for us Washingtonians?

Unfortunately, not likely.

The Mariners have hired former bench coach of the Oakland A's Don Makamatus as their new manager and have hired new GM Jack Zduriencik. Perhaps, they could possibly pull out a winning season next year but I am not optimistic right now about a playoff spot.

As for the Seahawks, we lose Mike Holmgren after this season and while I would like to give current assistant coach James Lawrence the benefit of the doubt for when he takes over the team. I'm not very optimistic about this team unfortunately either. Maybe not next season but perhaps in a season or two they could be back on top again.

Perhaps our state is being punished for allowing our NBA team to move to Oklahoma City?

Nothing against Oklahoma City mind you. I think it is about time that they finally get a real professional sports team and they really deserve it. I am not really bitter about the move. I am not a true basketball fan anyway. Just an interesting thought.
