hypocriteI am speaking in general terms here of course. There might actually be a few honest, genuine, sincere, faithful believers out there.
A person who pretends to have virtues, moral or religious beliefs, principles, etc., that he or she does not actually possess.
-- Random House Unabridged Dictionary
A person who professes beliefs and opinions that he or she does not hold in order to conceal his or her feelings or motives.
-- Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary
The problem is that is it hard to find one amongst the mass of pretenders out there.
Christians profess to follow the teachings of Christ. His teachings centered around one thing: love. Love for your fellow man. Love for your neighbors. Love for your enemies. Love.
Three things will last forever - faith, hope, and love - and the greatest of these is love. 1 Corinthians 13:13 (NLT)When is the last time you felt love from someone that claimed to be a Christian?
When was the last time you saw or heard about a person professing to be Christian show love toward, oh let's say just as an example, a homosexual?
Have you ever seen it? Or have you seen nothing but hate and spite toward homosexuals?
When was the last time you saw or heard about a person professing to be a Christian show love toward, as another example, a young girl struggling with a decision whether or not to end the life of their unborn child?
Have you ever seen it? Or have you seen nothing but angry protesters or holier-than-thou individuals spending more of their time trying to convince this young woman that she is a sinner?
When was the last time you could feel love from, for example, the religious right?
Do you feel love from them or do you feel a biased political agenda from them?
If Christians are so Christ-like, or are supposed to be anyway, why do they not take the time to talk to people instead of condemning them?
Using previous examples, why not discuss the idea of civil rights with a homosexual instead of damning him or her to hell for their choice in life? Why not become a friend to the young woman first and help her through her tough decision instead of calling her a baby killer and throwing pictures of fetuses at her?
If Christians are supposed to be so Christ-like. Why aren't they? Why don't they act more like Christ instead of acting like complete...pardon my French...dick!
They must have forgotten that whole, "take the plank out of your eye before you wipe the speck from your brother's" thing.
They must have forgotten that the only people that Jesus ever condemned, the ONLY people...were not the sinners, not the homosexuals, not the adulterers, not the tax collectors (apparently sinners in his day), not the Roman soldiers.....no he did not condemn them. The only people he ever condemned were the religious leaders of His day.
Wrap yourself around that for a while.
Am I pointing my finger to anyone specific in particular..no. But if the shoe fits....you know who you are.
Like I mentioned in a blog post from back in June 2007, I am sorry for the actions of my "people." Please forgive them, for they don't care what they do.
