"Lefty" or "Righty"

Am I a "lefty" or a "righty"? Am I "liberal" or "conservative"? Amd I a "moonbat" or a "wingnut"?

I think that I am a little of both, depending on what issue we are discussing.

Below I have listed a few of the main issues that we political bloggers tend to talk about and what my specific stance is on each. Perhaps it will clear up this whole am I a lefty or righty debate. Perhaps not.

Abortion
I am pro-life.
In my opinion, abortion is murder. Nothing more. Nothing less.
This puts me clearly on the right.

Death Penalty
Again, I am pro-life.
Two wrongs do not make a right. Executing a criminal for murdering someone does not bring that person back. Is revenge really justification?
This would put me toward the left.

Gun Control
I am a firm believer in gun "control" but not gun "criminalization."
I believe that it is the right of an American citizen to own a gun.
I also believe that things like background checks and waiting periods are acceptable means of controlling who does and does not purchase a gun but I am not so naive as to think that it keeps guns completely out of the hands of criminals.
This would put me on the left again.

Gay Rights
I believe that homosexuals are people and deserve the same rights as everyone else.
I do not believe in adding the term "sexual orientation" to the definition of hate crimes. I believe that all violent crime, regardless of race or sexual preference, is a hate crime.
I'm not sure where this puts me. Probably somewhere left of middle.

Flag Burning
I believe it is the right of an American citizen to desecrate an American flag is they so choose to. To criminalize the act takes away a person's constitutional right to free speech and free expression.
I also believe that those people that do burn flags are idiots. It proves nothing. Nothing except that these people can't find a better way to express themselves and show their distaste of their country in another way.
I think this puts me on the left.

Tax Reform
I am an advocate for a system much like the Fair Tax or some sort of national sales tax instead of the current progressive tax system.
I have no idea where this would put me.

Health Care Reform
On this ever changing my mind subject, I am current in favor of expanding both the employer-based system and eligibility requirements for the Medicare and Medicaid programs.
I do not favor a completely, government-controlled or "single payer" system. The government has proven ineffective in handling things so they need to keep their nose out of health care decisions.
I do not favor tax credits for individuals because I really just don't understand how this would really help.
I'm not sure where this puts me either. Probably somewhere in the middle.

So just based on these few key issues, I would have to say that I am probably somewhere in the center but slightly left of center.

I dunno really. I guess this did not really clear anything up. LOL!

I think your stance on guns (if I understood correctly) would put you more to the right.

Let me ask you this... currently an individual can sell his gun (registered or otherwise) to another individual (not as a gun dealer) without any regulation.

Would you revoke this?

Also... I don't see anything in your statement on homosexuality that I disagree with as a "righty".
Gay's should have the same rights as everyone else.... People already have the same rights regardless of their sexual preferences.
As I pointed out in another post... homosexuals can marry but like everyone else, must fit the legal criteria of marriage... if that's what you were referring to when you say "same rights".

I think you left out the biggest issue of all for those on the left... "Global Warming" errr "Climate Change"... I mean "Our Deteriorating Atmosphere".

That alone should put you way way way over on the right.

I thought most "righties" were opposed to any sort of gun control?

Hmmm....individual sales. I'm not really sure. I think if someone sold someone a gun and that person went out and killed someone with it, the person that sold the gun should be held responsible as well. I'm not 100% sure if I would make that illegal though. I might have to stew on that a bit and get back to you.

The Climate change issue. Hmmm.....tell you what. I will write up a separate piece about that as a sequal to this post. That deserves more than a mere comment on an existing post.

I believe in gun control from the standpoint that one must pay the dealer for one's gun and they should have a trigger.

Also make a note on killing an attacking black criminal in your store:
1. Empty your gun rapidly into several vital parts of his/her/its body before reloading if you live Oklahoma county and are white.
2. Get the hell outa there before the racists OJ Jurists types show up to protest and burn your store down as a tribute to affirmative action Honky.

At the core we conservatives are against any additional gun registration or restrictions... but there isn't any push from the right to revoke existing registrations or waiting periods or background checks on guns purchased from dealers that I'm aware of.

But yes, a private individual can sell a used gun to another individual without any registration or reporting just like it were a baseball bat, bow and arrow or set of kitchen knives.

JIM:
It is comments like THOSE that make me totally for gun control.

RED:
I am okay with not laying down any MORE restrictions, I am just totally in favor of waiting periods for handguns (although I would probably favor waiting periods for rifles and shotguns too) and background checks for any gun sales.

If by "any gun sales" you mean including a sale of a use gun between two private individuals.... then you would favor additional regulation.

As I said above, that is currently not regulated.

Yes Red, I would "favor" regulation of private gun sales although I am just not sure it would be feasible. I mean I guess you can make a law stating you can't sale a gun to a private individual but how would you enforce it.

Like I said, maybe regulation on that sort of thing is not the answer. But maybe if the person that bought the gun goes out and kills someone, the individual that sold the gun should be responsible as well.
