So Long, Move On!

I hereby officially renounce my membership in the MoveOn organization.

Over time, it has become clear to me that the political agenda of MoveOn.Org does not coincide with my own.

With that in mind, I have decided to sever my ties with their little club.

So long, MoveOn, I am moving on. I am sure that I will not be missed.

  2. They are jumping on this public plan option way too hard and my email is getting piled up with requests to support them on this.

    Nope sorry. No can do.

  3. UPDATE:

The email I just got from MoveOn.Org:

    "Dear Steve Long,
You've been permanently unsubscribed from the MoveOn list -- if you take no more action, this'll be the last email you get from us. But please don't go!
MoveOn gets its power from its members -- we're just 3 million people working together to change the world.....--Justin Ruben and the MoveOn team."

And here is my response to them:

"Thank you for responding Justin. I have chosen to dis-associate myself from your organization due to the fact that over time I have come to realize that your organizations political agenda does not coincide with my own.
Your organization's wants and needs are different from my wants and needs.
Thank you again and good luck to you."

See. I was nice to him, wasn't I?

  6. I’ve been getting emails from MoveOn for a few years now, but I sure don’t consider myself a member. I’m also on the AFA email list and God knows I’m not a member of that organization. I stay on these lists because I like to keep up with what the looney toons on the fringes are doing.

  7. I get a lot of emails from MoveOn but I also did some volunteer work for them so I was basically considered a member of it.

I just decided that my beliefs and their beliefs are not the same in the grand scheme of things so I chose to just leave them behind.

No more membership. No more emails. No more nothing to associate myself with them.

I am still a card carrying member of the ACLU still though. Go Andrew Shepherd! LoL!

  8. I really need to join the ACLU.

  9. Yeah. It's a good organization. There are a couple of things I disagree with them on but in the grand scheme of things they fight for the liberty and freedom of the American citizens and I am all over that.

  10. ACLU huh, no comment...

  11. The ACLUs mission is "to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties guaranteed to every person in this country by the Constitution and laws of the United States."

Red, please don't tell me that you are opposed to that.

They defend religious liberty (which I support).
They support the decriminalization of drugs (which I support).
They defend freedom of speech and freedom of the press (which I support).
They oppose capital punishment (which I also oppose).
They defend reproductive rights (okay, this is where we don't agree).
They defend civil rights for the homosexual community (which I support up to a point, that is I won't go so far as to say they need to have their own hate crime definition but then again I don't agree with putting qualifiers on violent crimes anyway).

6 out of 7 isn't bad and like I said their are a couple of things I disagree with them on (but nowhere near as much as I disagree with MoveOn). But overall, I support their organization and their efforts so I am proud to be a member.

  12. I think that I pretty much agree with everything on that list.

  13. There is a big difference between what some people say in their mission statements or public stance and what the results of their actions actually end up doing, ... take "Planned Parenthood" for example.

Nowhere in their mission statement do they mention killing unborn babies or fetuses or anything to do with the unborn... or Unions, which in theory are great but reality not so great.... so I'll be nice and say... no comment for now, but I'll put up a post on what I think of the ACLU when I have more time to devote to it.

Have a great Independence Day guys!
