Currently Reading: The Fathers

TITLE: The Fathers

AUTHOR: Pope Benedict XVI

YEAR PUBLISHED: 2008

PUBLISHED BY: Our Sunday Visitor Publishing

I decided to put down that last book (The Essential Pope Benedict) and try it again another time. It really is a hard read for me.

This one, however, so far, has been a pretty easy read. I think that perhaps Pope Benedict had a different audience in mind when he wrote this one.

This book is basically a collection of short biographies of the men we call the Apostolic Fathers. The Apostolic Fathers, if you don't know who they were, were Christians from the 1st and 2nd centuries that were either taught directly by the Apostles or by the men that were taught by the Apostles. These are the men from whom most of the Catholic "traditions" come from.

Anyway, so far it's a good book and I would recommend it to anyone that is interested in early Church history.
