Top 3 Films: John Goodman

Happy 58th Birthday John!

The Babe (1992)

In this biopic, Goodman plays the famous ball player George Herman Ruth, otherwise known as Babe Ruth.

Although the film was not a big critical or financial success, I liked it. Probably because I am actually a big fan of biopics. (Goodman also starred in another biopic about Huey Long, the Louisiana politician).

Mother Night (1996)

This one which is based on a 1961 novel by Kurt Vonnegut is actually one of my favorite movies. (Consequently, Vonnegut is one of my favorite authors and the novel this movie is based on is one of my favorite books.)

Goodman doesn't have much screen time in the movie but his character, Major Frank Wirtanen, is a very important part of the picture.

Monsters Inc (2002)

I don't care what anyone says, Pixar makes some great films that aren't always just for kids.

In this film, Goodman does the voice for one of the lead characters, James P. Sullivan (Sulley), opposite Billy Crystal's Mike Wazowski.

This picture had a really good cast. Steve Buscemi, James Coburn, Jennifer Tilly, Frank Oz, John Ratzenberger....

It was nominated for Best Animated Feature by the Academy but lost to Shrek.

According to the Wiki article, there is set to be a sequel released sometime in 2012.

An honorable mention goes to:
Revenge of the Nerds (1984)

I don't know how many of you actually remember this movie but it is one of John's first movies in which he plays the d-bag football coach.
