Top 3 Films: Kevin Bacon

Holy cow Kevin, you're 52 years old today!?! Happy Birthday!

Flatliners (1990)

In this Joel Schumacher film, Bacon stars along with Keifer Sutherland, Julia Roberts, William Baldwin and Oliver Platt as a group of medical students that attempt to prove that there is life after death.

Apollo 13 (1995)

Ron Howard directed this film. Kevin Bacon stars as Jack Swigert, one of the astronauts that were stuck in space with a crippled spaceship. The cast on this one was pretty amazing, as are many of Bacon's films. This one includes Tom Hanks, Bill Paxton, Gary Sinese, and Ed Harris. It won the Oscar for Best Film Editing. It was nominated for Best Picture (but lost to Braveheart), Best Supporting Actor (Ed Harris), and Best Supporting Actress (Kathleen Quinlan). It was also nominated for several Golden Globe Awards including Best Picture Drama, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor (Harris) and Best Supporting Actress (Quinlan).

Mystic River (2003)

A Clint Eastwood directed film based on a novel by Dennis Lehane.
Bacon plays detective Sean Devine and childhood friend of the characters played by Sean Penn and Tim Robbins. Also in the movie is Laurence Fishburne.
Sean Penn won the Oscar for Best Actor and Tim Robbins won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. It was nominated for Best Picture (but lost to, of all things, The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King...personally liked Mystic River better), Best Director for Eastwood (lost to Peter Jackson for Lord of the Rings), and Best Screenplay. Penn and Robbins also won the Golden Globes for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor, respectively.

I have to say this was a hard list to compile because he has done a lot of great films. He was in JFK (another great film that I did not put in his top 3 because he played a very minor role), A Few Good Men (which should have made this list but did not because I already listed it for Tom Cruise), Murder in the First (which almost made the cut), and Sleepers (which also should have made this list but, again, his role was minor), among many others.
