Top 3 Films: Patrick Stewart

Happy 70th Birthday Mr. Stewart!

Conspiracy Theory (1997)

In this film, directed by Richard Donner (The Omen, Superman, Lethal Weapon, etc..), Stewart plays the main bad guy and CIA psychologist, Dr. Jonas opposite Mel Gibson's Jerry Fletcher.
This film also starred Julia Roberts.
In this film, Gibson's character thinks that there are conspiracies everywhere and looks for them everywhere but things start to fly when he actually stumbles into one...that he himself is a part of.

Animal Farm (1999)

This film is based on a novel of the same name written by George Orwell, who is famous for writing the novel 1984. I actually liked this novel more than I liked 1984 and was glad to see it made into a movie.
In this one, Stewart does the voice for the character Napoleon, who for all intents and purposes is the bad guy in this film.
This film, and novel, are (in my opinion) a subtle re-telling of the Soviet takeover of the Russian tsarist government.

X-Men (2000)

By far the best casting decision made in this franchise for this comic book based movie is Patrick Stewart's casting as Professor X. With him doing this role, there is nobody that I could even fathom trying to play this character other than him. Not only is he perfectly cast, he does an amazing job of the character.
Hugh Jackman was a good choice for Wolverine as well but not quite as spot on as the casting job they did for Professor X.
I honestly could not see this franchise going on at all without him in this role.

Honorable Mention:

Star Trek: First Contact

Besides the newest Star Trek movie, which technically has nothing to do with the rest of the franchise in my opinion, this is really the only other Star Trek movie that I really liked.
Stewart of course plays Captain Jean-Luc Picard, which I think is really the role that brought him into the big time.
