Top 4 Films: Ben Affleck

Happy 38th Birthday Ben!

I decided to do a Top 4 instead of a Top 3 today. No real reason. Just felt like changing things up a bit today. Enjoy!

Glory Daze (1996)

Most people have not heard of this movie. Not surprising. The movie is great though.

Ben stars as the main character, Jack, who is about to graduate college and realizes that his best years are behind him.

It also stars Alyssa Milano, John Rhys-Davies and French Stewart. It also has cameos by Matthew McConaughey, Matt Damon, Brendan Fraser, and Leah Remini.

It also had a really good soundtrack and included tunes by Bad Religion, The Vandals, NOFX, and Tilt. The soundtrack was released by Kung Fu Records.

Chasing Amy (1997)

This film, directed by Kevin Smith, was the 3rd in his View Askewniverse (also included Clerks and Mallrats (which Ben also starred in).

Ben stars as comic book artist and writer Holden McNeil.

It also stars Jason Lee, Joey Lauren Adams, Jason Mewes, Kevin Smith, Matt Damon and Brian O'Halloran.

This film, whose budget was only $250,000 grossed over $12 million.

Dogma (1999)

Another Kevin Smith directed movie, this movie is not only my favorite Smith film but also one of my favorite films of all time.
This is also part of the View Askewniverse.

Affleck stars as Bartleby, one of 2 angels that the movie highlights, the other being Loki, played by Matt Damon. This is by far their best performance together since Good Will Hunting.

It also stars Linda Fiorentino, Chris Rock, Alan Rickman, Jason Lee, Salma Hayek, George Carlin, Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith.

Jersey Girl (2004)

Yes, another Kevin Smith movie. Although this one is not part of Smith's View Askewniverse.

Ben stars as Oliver Trinke whose wife, played by Jennifer Lopez, dies while giving birth to their child and he has to raise her alone. That is, with the help of his father, played by George Carlin. It also stars Liv Tyler. There are also cameos by Will Smith, Jason Lee and Matt Damon.

  1. I’d have to go with Good Will Hunting as my favorite. I really like Chasing Amy and Dogma too. I never did see Jersey Girl though. I never saw Glory Daze either actually. I think we rented it once and then stopped about 15 minutes into the film.
