It was founded by English Puritans and originally called Trimountaine, then renamed Boston after a village in Lincolnshire, England.
The city is approximately 90 sq miles in area and about 645,000 people live there.
You can read about the city of Boston at www.cityofboston.org.
It was the site (obviously) of the Boston Massacre, where 5 Americans were killed by the hands of the British (March 5, 1770) and the Boston Tea Party, where a bunch of political activists dumped 342 chests full of tea into Boston Harbor in protest of the newly instituted tea tax imposed on the colonies by the British government.
Also, several battles of the American Revolution were fought here. The Battle of Bunker Hill (June 1775) and the Siege of Boston (April 1775). That Battles of Lexington and Concord were fought just a few miles away from Boston.
Boston is widely known for its sports teams.
Most importantly (in my opinion), the Boston Red Sox, who were established in 1901 and play at Fenway Park. They have won the World Series 7 times.
The Boston Celtics, established in 1946, play at TD Garden.
The Boston Bruines, established in 1924, also play at TD Garden.
The New England Patriots, established in 1960, play at Gillette Stadium, which technically is not in Boston but in Foxborough, which is about 20 miles from Boston.
As far as political leanings in the area go, Boston is roughly 55% Democratic and 7% Republican. The rest of the population considered themselves unaffiliated.
There are several colleges and universities in the Boston area including Boston College, Berklee College of Music, Boston University, Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MiT), Quincy College, and Suffolk University, among others.
The bands Aerosmith, American Wi-Fi, Boston (go figure), The Cars, Dinosaur Jr, Dropkick Murphys (duh), Extreme, Godsmack, Killswitch Engage, Letters to Cleo, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, The Pixies, and the Street Dogs are all originally from Boston.
Many of our founding fathers and other prominent politicians are originally from Boston such as John Adams, Samuel Adams, Michael Bloomberg, George H.W. Bush, Calvin Coolidge, Benjamin Franklin, John F Kennedy, John Kerry, Tip O' Neill, and Paul Revere.
There are also several other celebrities that call Boston their home, actors and sports figures such as Ben Affleck, Steve Carrell, Matt Damon, Geena Davis, Anthony Michael Hall, Matt Hasselback (Quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks), Denis Leary, Jay Leno, Matt LeBlanc, Edward Norton, Leonard Nimoy, Conan O'Brien, Edgar Allen Poe, Robert Frost, and Mark Wahlberg.
Uhh...yeah......This blog post was brought to you by the Boston Chamber of Commerce. LoL!

Boston was also the home of DYS, The Ducky Boys, The Lemonheads, The Blake Babies, Buffalo Tom, SSD, and the Street Dogs. There must be something in the water there that helps create fantastic bands.
Interestingly, did you know that the state of Massachusetts was originally one of the most conservative in the nation? Kind of ironic considering it is now one of the most liberal.
Very ironic
