According to this article, OK Dem Chairman Wallace Collins told a reporter that McVeigh would have been a tea party member. He is quoted as to have saying:
"...it's widely known that McVeigh was anti-government. I think he was a right-winger, and I think the current tea party people....they're anti-government....."
OKGOP Chair Matt Pinnell answered back stating:
“Chairman Collins has stooped to a new low with his latest remarks,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,This is as offensive and despicable as they come..............To imply that a deranged madman who killed 168 people including 19 children is someone like me, a `right-winger,’ is way over the line. He should immediately apologize for making that statement.”
As of yet, Chairman Collins has no plans to apologize.
Personally, I commend Chairman Pinnell on calling Oklahoma Democratic Chair Wallace Collins out on his outrageous and offensive remarks. To compare a domestic terrorist like Timothy McVeigh with the Tea Party Movement is disgusting. Perhaps some tea party members have acted in ways that do not reflect well on their movement and their goals but no means should they be on the same level as an disturbed individual like McVeigh.
