"People, especially conservatives, love to throw the word patriot around. It's almost like there is an implicit accusation that anyone who is not a conservative is somehow either not a patriot or is unAmerican. This idea is utter and complete bullshit. Just because someone has different opinions on policy...does not make them unpatriotic. The implications and innuendos...is not only ignorant, but it is also laughable...Anyone who is foolish enough to think that only their political philosophy is the one with all of the good ideas...is deluded and blind to reality. I disagreed with George W. Bush on a lot of things but I never called into question his love for this country. Why many conservatives can't do the same...is beyond me...This kind of ignorance, arrogance, and immaturity has got to stop...[unfortunately] it probably never will."
The point that Dave is trying to make here is that although you might disagree with liberals and their way of thinking because you are a conservative or might disagree with conservatives and their way of thinking because you are a liberal, neither conservatives or liberals have the exclusive track on patriotism.
Conservatives love their country and liberals love their country.
Patriotism is a love for the country. Not necessarily a love for politics or for politicians. And certainly NOT a blind-sided love for a particular political philosophy OR a blind-sided love for a particular political PARTY.
